Children with mental illness often struggle in school. Mental illness can affect a child’s ability to concentrate, make decisions, act rationally, and socialize effectively. Consistent, early, and appropriate intervention is the key to ensuring a child with special needs is a success at school.

For many parents though navigating through the maze of special education is a complicated and confusing process. Beautiful Minds assist parents throughout South Carolina in attempting to secure appropriate special education services for children who suffer from mental illness.

I became passionate about special education advocacy through my own experiences of advocating for my son who is diagnosed with bipolar and ADHD. While mental illness is the primary focus of Beautiful Minds, I also advocate on behalf of children with other special needs.

Our Mission is to…

Encourage collaboration between school personnel and the parents of students with mental illness

Encourage communication and coordination between all professionals and/or agencies involved with the child

Help school personnel to develop a respect and understanding of the child with mental illness

Helps families navigate and understand special educational rights and responsibilities

We understand that…..

Children are an emotional subject

What children need and the services they receive are not always the same

Professionalism, collaboration, and rational negotiation will serve the best interest of the child

It is the child who suffers when timely agreement is not met
